Server Upgrade 2008

Silver Star Sites, the local server management company for Kentropolis Internet, will be migrating the server space used by Kentropolis between Tuesday, October 7th and Friday, October 10th.

We do not anticipate any disruption in service, but there will be some changes, which we are notifying clients by e-newsletter. Please find below technical information we have been proviced on the new system for those who are interested and geek-inclined.

Quote:
Hardware/Software:

Our existing servers have been very reliable over the past 2 years, however they are feeling their age. We are replacing them with state of the art Intel based dual Xeon Quad-Core processor based systems with SATA drives and 4GB of high speed ram. We are continuing to run the Centos branch of Linux (64bit), along with CPanel/WHM and Fantastico. With the change of data centers comes an improvement on our back end server backups and security, as well as a 30 minute hardware SLA in case of hardware failure.

Some existing software may cease to run as-is under our improved security environment. Most notable is the Neomail webmail client software which is no longer being supported by Cpanel, and is not available under Cpanel 11. We will be reevaluating the programs on our banned-script list. You will see an enhanced CPanel. In addition, stronger spam filtering, antivirus and security are standard to improve server function and protect your clients.

Data Center:

With new hardware, comes a new data center in Michigan. The data center's network has been designed to accommodate clients demanding the highest quality network performance. There is a central focus on redundancy allowing our network to rapidly self-heal failures without interruptions to connectivity.

Data center redundancy is multi-tiered with N+1 internal device elements as well as entirely redundant chassis allowing any routing device to fail without interrupting client data connectivity. All core routing and switching equipment is state of the art Cisco.

Tier-1 Premium Bandwidth Providers:

Providing the highest quality Internet connectivity and performance is our top priority. Fitting with this we have exclusively selected premium Tier-1 bandwidth providers, ensuring minimal latency and excellent reach ability on a global basis.

We are proud to feature direct connectivity with MCI/UUnet, AT&T, and Savvis/Cable & Wireless. Our aggregate connectivity reaches an astounding 4,500+ networks just a single network away from our uplinks.
