New Email Policy - AOL & Catchalls
Because of huge increases in the amount of spam hitting our servers, we are no longer allowing the forwarding of "catch-all" accounts to AOL addresses.
This will not affect most of our cleints, but if your email system is set up to send all emails sent to an unspecified address to an AOL address, it will be adjusted. In cases where the single forwarder is still being swamped with spam, we will be forced to insist that they cease all forwarding to AOL and either use a server based POP account or their AOL address directly, and block all emails sent to their domain directly. We apologize for being forced to such strict policies on email, but there is no reason for people in the 21st century to still be dependent on an archaic, troublesome system such as AOL. We will help you any way we can to get off their system and move into a better Internet experience. The reason: AOL's spam detectors are unfortunately unable to differenciate between a forwarded message and a direct spam, and penalizes us for it. We've had emails from AOL blocked a few times over the years because of this and even risked having our server shut down because of their lack of ability or willingness to deal with these issues properly. Please also remember that our servers aren't intended for mass-emailing, and that any email lists must be 100% Opt-In, and comply with the Can-Spam act. For details, please refer to http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/CAN-SPA...cs_of_CAN-SPAM. Last edited by Ken of Kentropolis : 10-06-2008 at 11:37 PM. |
